Creating Art that Connects, Evokes Emotions and Offers a Moment of Pause

I'm Susan Boras, a fine artist inspired by the beauty of the natural world and the stories it whispers. My journey from a successful career in corporate leadership, coaching, and academia to becoming a full-time artist has been life-changing, teaching me one powerful truth: art has the ability to connect us all. Growing up on a farm instilled in me a deep love for animals and the outdoors, which continues to inspire my work.

I create art to inspire connection, reflection, and joy. Art is my way of sharing stories, moments, and meaning. Through every brushstroke, I seek to evoke emotions—joy, wonder, nostalgia—and to offer viewers a moment of pause, a chance to reconnect with themselves and their own experiences. It’s an invitation to celebrate beauty in all its forms and reflect on the emotions that make us human.

Working primarily with acrylics, I explore the rich textures and vibrant colors of the natural world. From the way sunlight filters through the trees to the emotions sparked by distant memories, my work is a celebration of life’s beauty—both seen and felt. Each piece begins as a blank canvas and evolves through layers of texture and color, using brushes, palette knives, sponges, and even my fingers to bring each story to life.

My art is meant to be more than something to look at—it’s meant to be felt. I hope it transforms spaces and touches hearts, sparking joy, connection, and contemplation. I aim to give viewers a moment of calm, reflection, and inspiration, encouraging them to see the beauty that exists within themselves and the world around them.

What My Artwork Brings to Collectors

My artwork is designed to offer more than beauty...it’s a meaningful experience that resonates deeply with those who collect it. Here’s what my work brings to those who welcome it into their lives:

  • A Universal Connection: My art serves as a bridge, connecting people to their memories, relationships, and the natural world. It reminds us of the beauty and interconnectedness of life, allowing viewers to feel a greater sense of belonging and shared humanity.

  • An Invitation to Reflect: Each piece encourages a moment of pause...a chance to step away from the  noise of daily life and reflect on what truly matters. Whether it’s a cherished relationship, a memory tied to a place, or the simple beauty of nature, my art  offers space for introspection and connection.

  • A Sense of Joy, Wonder, and Nostalgia: Through vibrant colors, rich textures, and meaningful compositions, my work evokes emotions that uplift the spirit. Many collectors find joy, wonder, and even nostalgia in my art, as it sparks memories of meaningful moments, places, and relationships.

Unique Stories and Journeys: Every piece I create is layered with narrative and emotion, making it more than just an image; it’s a story. These stories are universal yet deeply personal, allowing collectors to find their own meaning within the work.

  • Timeless and Personal Beauty: My work is intentionally crafted to be both timeless and personal, blending universal themes with individual resonance. It transforms spaces into meaningful sanctuaries, offering a sense of calm, inspiration, and beauty that endures over time.

Art isn’t just what I do. It’s how I share stories and meaning. Whether I’m painting, connecting with collectors, or planning future projects, my intention remains the same: to create art that inspires and connects.

From Academic to Artist – Taming the Inner Critic

Taming the Inner Critic and Embracing Change

Overwhelmed. Exhausted. Mentally drained. Stressed out. Physically tired.

Looking back now, it’s hard for me to admit I felt all those things such a short time ago. I know I wasn’t alone – so many of my colleagues and college students were feeling the same way post-COVID.

Figuring out what the ‘new normal’ might look like seemed daunting.

They Wanted to Share Their Story With You

Every time I gaze at it, it makes me want to step right into the canvas and run my fingers through the lavender, feel the warmth of the sun and go explore the cottage in the distance.
