Where the
Wild Rests
This is where the story rests.
The Collections Story
Since 2020 I have known loss in ways I did not expect to know it so closely, so quickly.
My mother. My sister. Beloved pets. Watching my husband carry his own grief as he lost his mother and his brother. Both of us stepping away from careers that had defined forty years of our lives. So much changed in such a short time. And through all of it I kept returning to the same quiet truth: life is precious, and fragile, and worth showing up for fully.
What I am learning now, in this slower and more intentional chapter, is that balance does not mean stillness. It does not mean the box of logic and practicality I once thought grounding required. Balance is a steady connection to yourself. To the people you love. To the rhythms of the natural world that keep turning regardless of what we are carrying.
When I am grounded I am not held back. I am held. And from that place of being held, something in me opens wider, paints more freely, and sees more clearly.
These six paintings live in that space. The quiet ones. The ones that ask you to stop, breathe, and remember what is real.

THE SILENT SENTINEL
This painting almost did not exist.
Shortly after I began it, a car accident left me with whiplash and injuries to my right side. The very side I paint with. Migraines made working at the canvas almost impossible. I faced a choice: wait for recovery, or find another way.
I chose another way.
I finished The Silent Sentinel with my left hand.
The Inuksuk in the foreground, that ancient stone figure the Inuit built to navigate treacherous terrain, guided me through the painting the way it has guided travellers for centuries. Not by removing the difficulty. By marking the path forward through it.
This painting is about balance and grounding in the truest sense. Not the balance of a life without disruption. The balance you find when everything shifts and you discover, to your own surprise, that you are still standing. Still creating. Still moving forward.
The mountains have always known this. Now, so do I.

WHISPERS OF THE WINTER'S HEART
Winter asks something of us that no other season does.
It asks us to be still. To move more slowly. To let the world go quiet and to find, in that quiet, what has always been there beneath the noise.
This painting is that invitation. A birch tree in close focus, its warm bark and bare branches dusted with snow. Behind it, evergreens heavy and blue-white under their winter weight. Everything hushed. Everything resting.
And then, hanging from one branch, a single red heart.
It is a small thing. But it changes everything around it. That splash of warmth in all that stillness. A reminder that love does not hibernate. That even in the coldest and most stripped-back season, something tender is always present. Waiting. Keeping watch.
This is where the wild rests. And the heart stays warm inside it.

WHERE THE HEART RESTS
I have women in my life I have known since kindergarten.
We have lived through everything together. Marriages and careers and children and heartbreak and the quiet, cumulative changes that turn girls into the women we are now. Life has taken us in different directions. Miles apart. Different rhythms. And yet when we reconnect, there is no catching up required. No measuring of effort or time. We simply pick up the thread and continue.
This painting is for them. Two girls on a swing, arms around each other, moving through the world together without knowing how far that movement would carry them.
The swing goes forward and back. Close and distant and close again. Through every season of life, the connection holds.
Some friendships are not measured by frequency. They are measured by depth. And they become, over time, one of the places where the heart rests most completely.

SOUNDS OF SILENCE
There is a particular silence that only arrives after a heavy snowfall.
The world does not go quiet all at once. It happens gradually, almost imperceptibly, until you realise that every sharp edge of sound has been softened. Every hard surface covered. The usual noise of living, muffled into something that feels almost sacred.
This painting is that moment. A winter night sky blazing with purple and blue and the quiet fire of stars. Dark trees standing as silent witnesses along the edge of the scene. A winding path marked only by tyre tracks, curving deeper into the landscape as if inviting you to follow.
I remember this silence from childhood. The way the world transformed after a snowfall into something softer and more spacious. As if nature itself had asked for a pause. As if everything, for just a little while, was allowed to simply be still.
This is where the wild rests. In the hush. In the stars. In the sound of your own boots making the only tracks.

GUARDIAN OF TRANQUILITY
In the heart of a winter forest, among the birch trees and the white flowers and the soft misted hills beyond, a small rabbit stands watch.
Not alarmed. Not fleeing. Simply present. Still. Holding its ground in the quiet of the woodland with a patience and a dignity that belongs entirely to creatures who have never been asked to be anything other than what they are.
I grew up in aspen groves along the river. I know the particular quality of a forest that has been left alone. The way it breathes differently from a managed space. The way the silence in it is not empty but full of life simply going about its own business without an audience.
This painting is an invitation to step into that silence. To breathe the clean, cold air. To notice the delicate balance of a world that knows how to take care of itself when we let it.
The rabbit is the guardian. But perhaps, in looking at it, we remember that we are meant to be guardians too.

WHISPERS OF WINTER WISDOM
At the very end of the journey, in the deepest quiet of a winter forest, a snowy owl sits in the birch trees and watches.
She has been here through everything. Through the discovery of the first collection and the renewal of the second. Through the connections forged in the third and the rest found in the fourth. She has been perched on her branch through all of it, listening with that extraordinary hearing that misses nothing, observing with those pale, ancient eyes that see in the dark what others cannot see at all.
The snowy owl has always been a symbol of wisdom. Not the wisdom of knowing all the answers. The wisdom of knowing how to be still. How to listen. How to wait for what is true to reveal itself in its own time rather than forcing it into the light before it is ready.
This is where the series comes to rest. In the hush of a winter woodland. In the company of a creature that has mastered the art of presence. In the reminder that the deepest wisdom is often the quietest.
What has the wild whispered to you along the way?
