I painted this thinking of my sister. She loved wide-brimmed hats, dreamed of France, and carried a list of places she never quite reached. When she passed, I felt the weight of unfinished dreams. So I painted her walking through the field she never got to cross. Unbound. Surrounded by colour. Moving toward open sky.
But as the painting grew, something else surfaced. I began thinking about the women who carry us before they carry themselves. Mothers. Sisters. Grandmothers. Women who love imperfectly and fiercely and quietly all at once.
This painting is for all of them. And for the compassion that arrives in us, slowly, when we are finally old enough to see them not just as the women who raised us, but as women becoming, just like us.
